A story of 3 lost years and 400 days

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I was so pleased to hear that Suzanne Holdsworth and her family can now start to get their lifes back on track, but they have lost 3 years that they will never get back and that doesn’t include all the time spent before the wrongful conviction.

Her case like ours started with the sad loss of a precious little child and they must have gone through hell again at everything coming out in court for a second time. Something I worry about for Maeve’s family in our case. Hopefully for Kyles family, they will now know that Kyle didn’t come to harm at Suzanne’s hands and maybe that will help them in their mourning.

The loss of a child as I have said before is the ultimate nightmare and I hope that the future will truly bring them much more happiness than they have had in the last few years.

As I sit and type the story of 5 more troops/marines back from Afghanistan is playing on TV and one of them will not be around to see his second child born. So much  sadness in this world at the moment, I kind of wish that there was a good news channel to balance all the gloom.

I also sat and listened to the Rachel Nickell case come to light again as now they finally have the right man, a man who killed and raped, whilst the Police were wrong footed. Investigations are not easy, but with the Holdsworth case and Rachel Nickells case, I do think they show a real need to look at training officers in Noble Cause Corruption as a matter of urgency.

Otherwise we may have more of this case in the future if we don’t sort this out soon. Kyles sad death and the ‘experts’ saying Suzanne had done it led that force up the garden path, the wrong path as it happened, and obviously the awful and tragic event that happened on Wimbledon Common all those years ago, as an Officer you want to catch someone for it.

But we, sorry they, need to keep an open mind and not lead any expert of Psychologist as in the Nickell tragedy lead the Police the wrong way. To the Boys and Girls in blue a simple request, don’t be fooled by these people (who again may be guilty of joining in on Noble Cause Corruption) who wear white coats or have ‘ologies’. A simple question to them could help and that would be…have you proven your theory/hypothesis beyond all reasonable doubt? If you don’t, then the CPS should..well you would hope so…..

Cops are naturally suspicious of people (it comes with the turf), but turn that on the people approaching you from the ‘other’ side! Look at the ‘expert’ ‘Rocky’ up in the north west, if he can con the Old Bill, Courts etc, then someone a bit more professional could get away with all sorts. Whatever their motive, money, ego, noble cause etc.

Sharon Birch an Officer from Cleveland Police, involved in the Holdsworth case stood up for what was right and got ’asked to leave’ the Police or words to that effect. I wonder if her former employers will apologise to her as well as Suzanne and her family? Well done to her, I hope she is doing well, if like me she has discovered the joys of life outside the Police.

Keran has now passed the 400 day mark, I remember reaching the 100, 200 and 300 marks, I do wonder if she will be there at 500?

Jack Straw was in the news this week after the courts have said he could pardon the Liverpool fan accused of a murder in Bulgaria, the one where another person admitted to doing it…I hope that Mr Straw can speed his release asap. Even the Germans and the English enjoyed the joys of Christmas famously in the trenches (or outside of those awful lines). I just hope this young man does get out soon and they catch the person who has admitted to it.

There are many in our Prison system who need to have their cases reviewed urgently, I hope they all hang on in there whilst they wait for that time to come.

The Colin Stagg Crimewatch special is now starting so may need to watch this. Lets hope lessons do get learned for all our sakes, it has happened too many times now.

Christmas Crackers

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Its at this time of year the jokes come out to make us moan and groan and sometimes make us smile, so here’s my few to make you do one or two of the above!

I met this bloke with a didgeridoo and he was playing Dancing
Queen on it. I thought, ‘That’s Aboriginal.’

Told my girlfriend I had a job in a bowling alley. She said ‘Tenpin?’ I said, ‘No, permanent.’

I went in to a pet shop. I said, ‘Can I buy a goldfish?’ The guy said, ‘Do you want an aquarium?’ I said, ‘I don’t care what star sign it is.’

I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said ‘Analogue.’ I said ‘No, just a watch.  I was reading this book today, The History of Glue. I couldn’t put it down.

I phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just went on and on.
Here’s one for all the prosecutions expert witnesses -

The recruitment consultant asked me ‘What do you think of
voluntary work? I said ‘I wouldn’t do it if you paid me.’
I told my mum that I’d opened a theatre. She said, ‘Are you having me on?’ I said, ‘Well I’ll give you an audition, but I’m not promising you anything.

I phoned the local builders today; I said to them ‘Can I have a skip outside my house?’ He said, ‘I’m not stopping you!’

This cowboy walks in to a German car showroom and he says ‘Audi!’

I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, ‘Nearest the bull goes first’ He went ‘Baah’ and I went ‘Moo’ He said ‘You’re closest’

I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, ‘How flexible are you?’ I said, ‘I
can’t make Tuesdays or Thursdays.’

I went to the local video shop and I said, ‘Can I take out The Elephant Man?’ He said, ‘He’s not your type.’ I said
‘Can I borrow Batman Forever?’ He said, ‘No, you’ll have to bring it back tomorrow’

Finally ‘whats pink and hard - thats right, a pig with a flick knife’!

 Happy Christmas!

Calling Simonne

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Hi,

Meant to say in the last post that I did get a card a while ago from an old friend of ours, but I can’t reply as the mobile number has changed and not sure if the address is the same either. So Simonne, if you read this can you contact the Carers team and let me know contact details.

But we hope all is well with you and the kids, hope to catch up before Christmas.

Christmas is coming!

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Ho ho ho,

Christmas is coming and the turkeys are trying to book last minute flights out of the country!

Things here in the Henderson household are not too bad, still up and down, but that’s life. Bit better than your average Turkey’s future anyway!!

Been reading through lots of Christmas cards from you all, and I must say a big thank you to everyone, especially all those at F.A.C.T. who have written to Keran. We normally write several hundred cards each year, we try to cut down each year but for the few we lose we gain a few more. But due to the many and funds not being what they used to be we won’t be doing too many this year.

Apologies to those that don’t get one this year but we just can’t afford to and as friends, I am sure you appreciate that. Even the few we did send out amounted to a fair few bob. Its a shame but hopefully come next year we will be back on track and have many more friends to add to the list…Dagnabitt!!

I got my first Christmas present whilst at Scouts the other day (and no it wasn’t that I cancelled Scouts or they didn’t turn up), which was nice and its now got pride of place under the tree. So thank you to Santa’s little Scouter!

Sylvie and myself went over to Basildon Crown Court, to see another case like Kerans go on, as some of the same old names like Risdon, Richards and the like were there. Unfortunately they had decided to take a break that day and I missed them in action, shame, but they seem to like attending court, as do I, so will see them again soon. Can’t wait!!

It was funny as according to sources at the court a certain expert was sat there being quite dramatic, tutting and shaking his head and using other non verbal signs to show he was unhappy at an expert who was giving their evidence (who happened to disagree with him). Bit childish, but not unheard of, as we saw the same sort of thing at Reading Crown Court.

I just hope the Jury in the Mallinder case are happy that the experts actually do know what they are talking about and have PROVEN beyond all reasonable doubt that the lady is guilty. Lets hope that justice is done, for everyone’s sake.

We have just had friends down for the weekend who went into see Keran, which was lovely surprise for them, in more ways than one. Their first visit had been to HMP Bronzefield, not long after she was wrongly convicted. So they saw a fair change in her. It was so great having them down here we all enjoyed just chilling out and boy was it chilly.

One great thing about Bronzefield was you could wait inside and go straight through into the visit centre. That all seems so long ago, but it came up again (the other day)whilst waiting to get in as a fellow visitor waiting was saying how Bronzefield was a bit warmer whilst waiting! Mentioned all the team there to!

The boys are getting ready for the Christmas season, and even though it maybe one more without their mum at least its the last one without her around.

I can’t see the next date for the hearing turning up anytime soon, but as soon as Christmas is out of the way hopefully they will pick up the speed. It will seem stupid if Keran is out before they clear her name… but lets watch this space.
Then Christmas is truly here!
I haven’t watched the news for a while, but I did see the sad story of four more bootnecks (Royal Marines) lost their life’s whilst serving their country. They leave behind loved ones and friends days away from Christmas. My thoughts are with them all, I have the biggest respect for the Marines, who complete the worlds longest training in the world.
It was so sad after seeing their Marine (& Navy)colleagues helping Mr Jeremy Clarkson test the new Ford Fiesta Assault Hatchback in a full on Naval Assault, with Air Support,  the other day on Top Gear. One day all cars will be tested this way!
I have an idea to mark the troops bravery and the support thet get (think about bringing back the Royal tournament - instead of paying bankers and incompetent Social Service Bosses off) but can’t commit to it yet until I clear up this mess.
Anyway must go,  got to get ready for a busy week with school shows (yet another thing Keran will miss for the last time) and various other things coming up.
Remember those serving their country and those less fortunate.
May you all be touched by the spirit of Christmas future and not that of Christmas past!
Take care and remember  a turkey is for life and not just for Christmas (they really do last a long time, theirs curry, casserole, sandwiches, salads, pies, chili, etc etc etc)
