A story of 3 lost years and 400 days
Thursday, December 18th, 2008I was so pleased to hear that Suzanne Holdsworth and her family can now start to get their lifes back on track, but they have lost 3 years that they will never get back and that doesn’t include all the time spent before the wrongful conviction.
Her case like ours started with the sad loss of a precious little child and they must have gone through hell again at everything coming out in court for a second time. Something I worry about for Maeve’s family in our case. Hopefully for Kyles family, they will now know that Kyle didn’t come to harm at Suzanne’s hands and maybe that will help them in their mourning.
The loss of a child as I have said before is the ultimate nightmare and I hope that the future will truly bring them much more happiness than they have had in the last few years.
As I sit and type the story of 5 more troops/marines back from Afghanistan is playing on TV and one of them will not be around to see his second child born. So much sadness in this world at the moment, I kind of wish that there was a good news channel to balance all the gloom.
I also sat and listened to the Rachel Nickell case come to light again as now they finally have the right man, a man who killed and raped, whilst the Police were wrong footed. Investigations are not easy, but with the Holdsworth case and Rachel Nickells case, I do think they show a real need to look at training officers in Noble Cause Corruption as a matter of urgency.
Otherwise we may have more of this case in the future if we don’t sort this out soon. Kyles sad death and the ‘experts’ saying Suzanne had done it led that force up the garden path, the wrong path as it happened, and obviously the awful and tragic event that happened on Wimbledon Common all those years ago, as an Officer you want to catch someone for it.
But we, sorry they, need to keep an open mind and not lead any expert of Psychologist as in the Nickell tragedy lead the Police the wrong way. To the Boys and Girls in blue a simple request, don’t be fooled by these people (who again may be guilty of joining in on Noble Cause Corruption) who wear white coats or have ‘ologies’. A simple question to them could help and that would be…have you proven your theory/hypothesis beyond all reasonable doubt? If you don’t, then the CPS should..well you would hope so…..
Cops are naturally suspicious of people (it comes with the turf), but turn that on the people approaching you from the ‘other’ side! Look at the ‘expert’ ‘Rocky’ up in the north west, if he can con the Old Bill, Courts etc, then someone a bit more professional could get away with all sorts. Whatever their motive, money, ego, noble cause etc.
Sharon Birch an Officer from Cleveland Police, involved in the Holdsworth case stood up for what was right and got ’asked to leave’ the Police or words to that effect. I wonder if her former employers will apologise to her as well as Suzanne and her family? Well done to her, I hope she is doing well, if like me she has discovered the joys of life outside the Police.
Keran has now passed the 400 day mark, I remember reaching the 100, 200 and 300 marks, I do wonder if she will be there at 500?
Jack Straw was in the news this week after the courts have said he could pardon the Liverpool fan accused of a murder in Bulgaria, the one where another person admitted to doing it…I hope that Mr Straw can speed his release asap. Even the Germans and the English enjoyed the joys of Christmas famously in the trenches (or outside of those awful lines). I just hope this young man does get out soon and they catch the person who has admitted to it.
There are many in our Prison system who need to have their cases reviewed urgently, I hope they all hang on in there whilst they wait for that time to come.
The Colin Stagg Crimewatch special is now starting so may need to watch this. Lets hope lessons do get learned for all our sakes, it has happened too many times now.
